NEW DELHI: Former BJP MP from Kaiserganj and Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, facing sexual harassment allegations, said on Monday that he did not expect another ticket from his party.
During his tour of his former parliamentary constituency in Gonda district, Brij Bhushan made a stop in Paraspur to meet the family members of murdered Samajwadi Party leader Om Prakash Singh.Answering reporters’ questions in Paraspur, Brij Bhushan said, “The BJP will never give me a chance now. I know the party will not give me a chance. I don’t dream like Mungerilal. Those who want to, can.”
Mungerilal is the lead character of ‘Mungerilal ke haseen sapne,’ a 1989 TV show, who was a daydreamer.
Brij Bhushan is accused of sexually harassing several women wrestlers. Following a major controversy and a protracted protest by prominent wrestlers last year, he was removed from his position. Consequently, he was not allowed to contest in the Lok Sabha election. His son Karan Bhushan Singh, however, won the constituency previously held by his father on BJP ticket.
The trial against him commenced last week, invoking charges under the Indian Penal Code related to sexual harassment, use of force against a woman, and criminal intimidation. The former MP has pleaded not guilty to these charges, maintaining his innocence.
