CUTTACK: Orissa high court has suspended the life sentence awarded to former Chhatrapur MLA Nagireddy Narayan Reddy and two others for their alleged role in a police inspector‘s murder during an agitation against land acquisition for a steel project in Ganjam district in 1998, reports Lalmohan Patnaik.
HC ordered their release on bail on such terms and conditions as deemed proper by the trial court.It fixed hearing on their petitions on Nov 5. Inspector Binoba Meher, deputed at Sindhigaon village during a protest on June 18, 1998, died of critical injuries after someone hurled a bomb on him. An MP-MLA special court sentenced Reddy and 12 others to life imprisonment on July 31, 2023.
HC on Monday granted the interim relief after “taking into account the submissions, the impugned judgment and the happening in the incident, including the role of the appellants as those emanate from the evidence and also the surrounding circumstances.
