‘We are very concerned … ‘: Mamata Banerjee after another train accident in North Bengal | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday expressed deep concern following another rail accident in the Phansidewa/Rangapani area of North Bengal. This incident follows a similar tragic accident in the same region just six weeks ago, where 10 people were killed and over 43 had sustained injuries.
“We are very concerned about what is happening!! Another rail accident today, in the same Phansidewa/Rangapani area in North Bengal, where there was a most tragic accident just six weeks back!” Mamata said in a post on X.
The West Bengal CM’s remarks came following, a wagon of a goods train derailed near Rangapani station on Wednesday. The north-east frontier railway (NFR) reported no injuries or fatalities from this incident. The empty petroleum wagon derailed at 11.45am, heading towards Rangapani siding. NFR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Sabyasachi De confirmed that railway personnel quickly cleared the tracks, ensuring no disruption to railway traffic.
The site of the recent derailment is close to where three coaches of the Kanchanjunga Express derailed on June 17, following a collision with a goods train. That accident claimed ten lives.
The Sealdah-bound 13174 Kanchanjunga Express collided with a goods train on June 17 morning near New Jalpaiguri. The collision occurred around 9 am near Rangapani. The train was en route from Agartala to Sealdah.
