BSF guards kill suspected Pak terrorist at Jammu border | India News – Times of India

JAMMU: BSF guards shot dead a suspected Pakistani terrorist attempting to cross the international border in the Samba sector of Jammu Thursday morning. Troops are on high alert as terrorist attacks in the Jammu region since June 9 have claimed the lives of 10 Army soldiers, a CRPF constable, and nine civilians, including seven pilgrims.
The intruder was spotted moving towards the border fence at first light. The guards fired warning shots initially, but aimed directly at the man when he ignored calls to halt, a BSF spokesman said.
Security has been heightened along the border, as both terrorists and drug smugglers frequently attempt to breach the fence. In July last year, BSF guards shot dead a man carrying 4kg of narcotics.
The latest incursion attempt followed the discovery of a terrorist hideout in a dense, mountainside forest in Rajouri district late Wednesday night. The hideout, found during a manhunt for terrorists linked to a recent series of killings in the Jammu region, contained arms and ammunition.
The hideout in Gulabgarh area was uncovered by a search team comprising personnel from Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF, and J&K police. “An AK-series assault rifle, magazines, a pistol with two magazines, two grenades, bullets, food rations, cigarette packets, and medicines were found there,” an official said.
It remains unclear if the hideout had been recently occupied. Security sources said terrorists often seek refuge in the upper reaches of Rajouri, a frontier district known for its forests, deep gorges, and mountain caves providing ample cover.
