NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man in Maharashtra‘s Palghar district has been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and killing a woman college professor.
The incident occurred on Thursday around 6.30 pm, when professor Atmaja Kasat, 45, was walking home and was struck by a car within the limits of Arnala Sagri police station.
The professor sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital and where she was later declared dead.
Senior inspector Vijay Patil stated that a medical test confirmed that the driver, Shubham Pratap Patil, was drunk at the time of the accident.
“He has been arrested under the Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act,” the official said.
