Pondicherry University cancels 1st year MBBS exam after paper leak | India News – Times of India

PUDUCHERRY: First-year MBBS examinations of Pondicherry University, scheduled to begin on Friday, have been postponed after the question paper was leaked. The revised schedule is yet to be announced. More than a dozen government and private medical colleges in Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands are affiliated to the university.
Students reached examination halls in their respective institutions on Friday morning when the announcement on postponement was made after a section of faculty members at a private medical college alerted the authorities that the question paper had been leaked.
The assistant registrar (medical) sent a circular to deans/directors of affiliated colleges on the postponement but did not mention any specific reasons. “…I am directed to inform that the examinations scheduled for I MBBS course for August 2024 session…are postponed due to administrative exigencies. The revised schedule will be intimated shortly. This may be brought to the notice of the students concerned,” the circular said.
A university official on condition of anonymity said the examination wing was always in the news for the wrong reasons. “It has a lackadaisical approach in scheduling, conducting exams and declaring results on time. On a couple of occasions, it didn’t declare results of UG even after the last date for admission into postgraduate courses.”
V Jayaraman, a 31-year-old data entry operator in the wing who stumbled upon a major forged mark-sheet scam, was murdered in 2008 and the case was transferred to CBI.
UGC NET was cancelled due to a question paper leak and NEET PG 2024 were postponed without any explanation. Earlier, National Testing Agency was embroiled in a controversy following allegations of irregularities in conduct of NEET UG.
