NEW DELHI: Veteran custodian PR Sreejesh emerged hero as India pulled off a nail-biting 4-2 win in the shoot-out against Great Britain on Sunday at the Paris Olympics.
Steering India into the semis after a standout performance in the shoot-out, keeper Sreejesh along with a jubilant Indian side was seen celebrating India’s epic triumph over the British.
As emotions ran wild in the Indian camp, keeper Sreejesh was seen pointing out at his hockey stick where he had his wife’s name Aneeshya written, dedicating the win to her along with the entire nation.

With the victory, the men’s hockey team marched into the semis at the Paris Games and remained on course to win its second consecutive Olympic medal. India won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
The thrilling win for India on Sunday came after they were reduced to 10 men as Amit Rohidas was shown a red card for raising his stick against a Great Britain player.
But India valiantly defended for close to 40 minutes to hold Great Britain 1-1 in regulation time.
Playing his last international tournament, Sreejesh then stood rock solid at the post, making saves after saves in the shoot-out, steering India into the semis.
India will play the winner of the quarterfinal match between Germany and Spain in the semis.
