NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has informed Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena that cabinet minister Atishi will hoist the national flag on his behalf at the city government’s Independence Day function on August 15, according to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Kejriwal is currently in Tihar jail due to corruption and money laundering charges related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
“Kejriwal has written to (Lieutenant Governor V K) Saxena from jail saying that Atishi will hoist the tricolour in his place on August 15,” the AAP said.
Every year, the Delhi government’s Independence Day celebration is held at Chhatrasal Stadium, where Kejriwal typically addresses the audience.
Bail plea dismissed
The Delhi high court dismissed chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Excise Policy case on Monday.
The court ruled that there was a justifiable reason for Kejriwal’s arrest. As for his bail application, the court disposed of it, allowing Kejriwal to seek further relief from the trial court.
