“Based on a complaint filed by us in connection with the Cyber attack on our multisig wallet, the police has taken cognizance of the matter and a FIR under BNS & IT Act has been registered on 5th August 2024 at PS Special Cell, PS Lodhi Colony, New Delhi through Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations, IFSO of Delhi Police,” the country’s biggest crypto exchange said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
In a separate post, WazirX CEO Nischal Shetty clarified that they had filed a police complaint the day of the cyberattack.
“Now before conspiracy theorists come forward, let me clarify that we had filed a police complaint next day of the cyberattack and had already made the announcement to everyone that police complaint has been filed. It generally takes time for FIR after filing of the complaint,” he wrote in the post.

Now before conspiracy theorists come forward, let me clarify that we had filed a police complaint next day of the cyberattack and had already made the announcement to everyone that police complaint has been filed.

Just like all our customers, we too want the culprits of this theft to be caught and the funds recovered.
We’re constantly working on progressing towards next steps and solutions. We’ll continue to do that.
All we ask for is time so that we can work on the way forward 🙏
Previously, WazirX proposed a socialised loss strategy including a 55-45 plan to restore its platform following a $230 million security breach. Under this plan, users with 100% of their tokens in the ‘not stolen’ category will receive 55% of those tokens back. The remaining 45% will be converted to USDT-equivalent tokens and locked. After facing backlash, the company has taken a U-turn and said that it ‘exploring all options’.
