NEW DELHI: Preventing a major attack on the national capital ahead of Independence Day, Delhi Police‘s special cell has arrested an Islamic State (IS) operative who was on the list of “most wanted” terrorists and being hunted by multiple agencies.
Rizwan Ali, was wanted for over a year since he escaped from Pune Police‘s custody in July 2023. The NIA had declared a reward of Rs 3 lakh on him.

Sources said Rizwan was nabbed from Delhi-Faridabad border in the early hours with arms and ammunition.
An FIR under UAPA has been registered and raids are ongoing to dismantle Rizwan’s network.
Rizwan and two others were on the most wanted list. Of them, one Shehnawaz was arrested in September, last year while Abdullah alias Diaperwala is still absconding.
