Upcoming close approaches of 3 large asteroids
Asteroid 2024 KH3: The largest of the three, this asteroid measures around 610 feet across—similar in height to a tall building. It will make its nearest approach on August 10, coming within 5.6 million kilometres of Earth. NASA has assessed this flyby as safe, with no risk to our planet.
Asteroid 2024 PK1: On the same day, this smaller asteroid, with a diameter of about 110 feet, will pass by Earth at a distance of 6.4 million kilometres. Although it is closer than KH3, it is not considered a significant threat.
Asteroid 2024 ON2: Scheduled to make its closest approach on August 12, this asteroid is approximately 120 feet in diameter. It will come within 6.8 million kilometres of Earth, but like the others, it poses no threat.
NASA: Monitoring asteroids to ensure Earth’s safety
NASA, along with other space agencies, is actively monitoring these asteroids to ensure Earth’s safety. All available data indicates that these celestial objects will pass by without causing any harm, and Earth will remain secure as they continue their journey through space.
