BEGUSARAI: A couple and their 10-year-old daughter were murdered in their sleep by unidentified assailants who broke into their residence in Thatha-Rashidpur village of Bihar’s Begusarai district early Saturday. The couple’s five-year-old son was grievously injured in the attack.
After killing the victims, the murderers went on to pour acid on their bodies.Sanjivan Singh (45), his wife Sanjita Devi (35) and their daughter Sapna were found dead by neighbours. The couple’s son Anshu, who survived the attack, was admitted to Begusarai Sadar Hospital.
“Seeing blood all over, I was shaken and called others. Anshu was still breathing so we rushed him to the hospital,” said Sunita, a neighbour of the family and the first to enter the house.
“Prima facie, it appears that the assailants struck the victims on the head with a sharp object. Preliminary investigation suggests that the murders took place after a puja conducted in the house late into the night. Police are interrogating family members and neighbours,” Begusarai SP Manish said, adding that forensic experts and a dog squad were roped in while a special team headed by Teghra SDPO was constituted for the probe.
Sanjivan usually woke up early to tend to the cattle, said his brother Suraj. “On Saturday, however, when he didn’t come out, we went inside and were shocked to find their bodies. Sanjivan was embroiled in a land dispute with a neighbour,” said Suraj. Locals, however, described Sanjivan as naïve with no known enemies.
