Two die after inhaling smoke from charcoal stove in Kodai hotel | India News – Times of India



DINDIGUL: Two tourists from Trichy died of suspected asphyxiation in a Kodaikanal hotel room on Saturday after they cooked barbeque chicken on a charcoal stove and left it burning overnight.
Police identified the deceased as Anand Prabhu and Jeyakannan. They came to Kodaikanal with two other friends, Sivasankar and Sivaraj, and were staying in a lodge at Chinnapallam on Friday.Police said the youth had brought liquor and a charcoal stove to their room.
They consumed liquor and cooked barbeque chicken but left the stove burning as it was cold inside the room. Police said Sivasankar and Sivaraj later went to sleep in their room. When they returned on Saturday morning, they found Anand and Jeyakannan lying unconscious. They immediately called 108 ambulance services. However, paramedical personnel who rushed to the spot declared Anand and Jeyakannan dead. Kodaikanal police registered a case and are investigating.
Police suspect that the two youth inhaled smoke from the burning charcoal and died of asphyxiation. The bodies were recovered and sent for postmortem.
