DHAKA: The interim govt warned media outlets Sunday that any attempt at flattery or misinformation instead of publishing or broadcasting the truth could lead to them being shut down. “Shame on you, shame on the media owners… you did not tell the truth,” home affairs adviser Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain said, alluding to the alleged suppression of truth about how the country was being run for years. He said he wouldn’t recommend the closure of any media outlet “for what they did in the past”, but declared this wouldn’t be allowed during the tenure of the interim govt. “You know me,” the former military officer said. He criticised the “approach” of journalists while asking questions of the erstwhile govt, saying that “a nation falters when the media does not uphold the truth”.
