IIT Madras’ scores in different parameters across categories
The Ministry of Education ranks these institutes based on five parameters: Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practices (RPC), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception (PER).

IIT Madras: Placements and Higher studies
The data available on the official NIRF website shows placement and higher studies records for the past three years. Here’s a summary for those who graduated in 2022-23.
- UG [4-Year Program(s)]: For students admitted in 2019-20 and graduating in 2022-23, the median salary was Rs 16.33 lakh. Of the 639 students who graduated, 496 were placed, and 96 pursued higher studies.
- UG [5-Year Program(s)]: For students admitted in 2018-19 and graduating in 2022-23, the median salary was Rs 17 lakh. Of the 385 students who graduated, 325 were placed, and 41 pursued higher studies.
- PG [2-Year Program(s)]: For students admitted in 2021-22 and graduating in 2022-23, the median salary was Rs 15 lakh. Of the 688 students who graduated, 578 were placed, and 70 pursued higher studies.

NIRF Ranking 2024: Other details
The ninth edition of NIRF was released on Monday. The number of higher education institutions participating rose from 3,565 in 2016 to 10,845 in 2024.
The rankings now encompass sixteen categories and subject domains, up from four in 2016. NIRF assesses institutions based on five broad parameters: teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practice; graduation outcomes; outreach and inclusivity; and perception.
