Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni congratulated India on 78th Independence Day and highlighted the growing bond between the two nations. Sharing a photo of herself with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Meloni underscored the deepening ties between Italy and India, reflecting on their growing strategic partnership.
“On the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, I would like to express my heartfelt wishes to the people of India, and especially to the many Indians who follow this page.Italy and India share an ever-stronger bond, and I am confident that together we will achieve great things. Our strategic partnership is an important pillar for the future”, Meloni said in a post.

French President Emmanuel Macron, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu were among the world leaders who sent wishes for India on the 78th Independence Day, highlighting the strong bilateral ties and strategic partnerships between their countries and India.
French President Emmanuel Macron also congratulated the Indian leadership, recalling the warm reception he received during his visit to India earlier this year. In a message posted on X, Macron conveyed his eagerness to continue working closely with PM Modi. “I look forward to working with my friend @NarendraModi on achieving the ambitious goals we have set for our strategic partnership,” Macron wrote, reaffirming France’s commitment to deepening its relationship with India.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to President Droupadi Murmu and PM Modi, emphasising the “particularly privileged strategic partnership” between Russia and India. Putin expressed confidence that the agreements reached during recent talks in Moscow would further enhance the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. “This undoubtedly meets the interests of the friendly peoples of the two countries and is in line with the consolidation of security and international stability,” Putin added, highlighting the broader significance of their partnership in the global context.
South Asian leaders celebrate historic ties, regional cooperation
Leaders from India’s neighboring countries in South Asia also joined in celebrating India’s Independence Day, focusing on the historical ties and cooperative spirit that bind the region.
Nepal’s PM K P Sharma Oli extended warm congratulations to Prime Minister Modi and the Indian people, expressing hope for strengthened bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations. Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Maldives’ President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also shared their best wishes, with Muizzu reflecting on the enduring friendship between the Maldives and India, rooted in history and mutual prosperity.

Broader international support
Beyond South Asia and Europe, leaders from around the world, including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Singapore’s minister for foreign affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, shared their wishes and support for India.
Blinken noted the deep bond between the US and India, founded on shared commitments to democracy, freedom, and human dignity. Balakrishnan looked forward to building on the “close and longstanding relations” between Singapore and India.
