NCERT books now must for classes 9-12 in CBSE schools – Times of India

MUMBAI: Central Board of Secondary Education (CB-SE) has made it compulsory for its schools to use textbooks from National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for classes 9 to 12 from this academic year. For classes 1 to 8, schools have been ‘strongly’ encouraged to use NCERT textbooks. Previously, schools had the choice to prescribe either NCERT textbooks or books by private publishers for all classes, reports Sandhya Nair.
As per a notification issued by CBSE on Monday, for subjects where NCERT books are not available for classes 9 to 12, schools should use the books uploaded on CBSE website. The notification also stated that schools can use supplementary material and digital content for classes 9 to 12, as long as they are in line with National Curriculum Framework for School Education.
Principals have noted that parents of higher secondary students prefer private publishers’ books as they help prepare children for competitive exams, while NCERT books are considered easier.
