KOLKATA: I might have lost my daughter, but gained millions, the father of the RG Kar Medical College rape-murder victim told reporters on Friday, moved by the ‘Reclaim the Night’ protest across the world. At the same time, he urged all to refrain from naming her, sharing “ugly photographs of my daughter” (referring to photos of the body) and spreading wrong information.
But the woman’s mother levelled fresh allegations against police.”At 10:53 am that day, we got a call from the hospital assistant superintendent, saying it was a suicide. After we reached (the hospital), we were not able to see her body immediately. It was only at 3 pm that we saw her. We were under a lot of pressure. Some people even tried to damage her car. When the chief minister came to our home, we told her we suspected Sanjay Roy (the arrested accused) might not be involved,” she told reporters.
The father said, “CM Mamata Banerjee had herself said she wanted a CBI probe. We moved court, seeking to expedite it.” Asked about the ongoing movement and protest rallies, the mother said, “We are in 100% support of the movement and the protests taking place across the country and abroad. We send our love to all the protesters. We consider everyone as our own sons and daughters.”
The day before, a CBI team, led by its joint director V Chandrasekhar, visited the victim’s home in Sodepur. A four-member CBI team reached the house around 4.30 pm on Thursday and spent more than an hour there, speaking to the family. After meeting them, Chandrasekhar had said, “The investigation is going on. We have taken the parents’ statements.”
Later in the evening, the father of the victim said they handed over the documents they had to the CBI oficer. “The CBI officers met us and spoke to us. They took away all the evidence and documents we had,” he said.
