Earlier today, he launched development projects worth Rs 1,003 crore and appealed to the people to join the nationwide tree plantation campaign to protect the environment.
“CAA is not just for giving citizenship to people, it is also to give justice and rights to lakhs of people. Because of the appeasement politics of Congress and its allies, people seeking refuge did not get justice from 1947 to 2014. They were tortured in neighbouring countries because they were Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh or Jain, but they were also tortured in their own country… The appeasement politics of INDI Alliance did not serve them justice. PM Modi gave them justice,” Shah said while addressing the citizenship certificate distribution program.
He said that these people were tortured in neighbouring countries for being Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, or Jain, and they were also mistreated in their own country.
“Opposition allowed intruders, made them citizens illegally; but those who followed laws were denied citizenship,” Shah added while accusing the opposition.
Shah accused the opposition of allowing intruders and illegally making them citizens while denying citizenship to those who followed the law.
He assured the Muslim community that the CAA is about granting citizenship and not taking it away, reiterating that no one will lose their citizenship as the CAA is about granting rights to Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, and Jain refugees.
“I would like to make it clear to my Muslim brothers and sisters that CAA is about granting citizenship, not taking it away,” he asserted.
Shah further highlighted the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh, saying that their population has decreased from 27 per cent at the time of partition to just 9 per cent today and asked, “where have others gone?”
Shah after launching the development projects today, emphasised the importance of trees in protecting the environment and the ozone layer, mentioning that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has pledged to plant 30 lakh trees in 100 days for the coming generation.
Shah urged the citizens of Ahmedabad to contribute by planting at least as many trees as the number of their family members in their residential societies, nearby wastelands, and their children’s schools.
He stressed that every citizen should aim to increase the oxygen in the environment more than the carbon dioxide created through the use of vehicles, air conditioners, and electricity.
The minister also pointed out that the cutting of trees for infrastructurere development has caused a hole in the ozone layer, posing a significant threat to the earth and human existence. He mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for people to dedicate a tree in the name of their mother, saying that there is no other option to get rid of the debt “we owe to our mothers.”
