BHOPAL: CBI on Monday conducted extensive raids in MP’s Singrauli district, targeting officials and suppliers associated with Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL) as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities.
This operation follows the arrest of a DSP from CBI’s Jabalpur unit on Saturday night for alleged involvement with some NCL officials under suspicion.During subsequent raids on Sunday, CBI uncovered illegal assets worth around Rs 4 crore, including Rs 1.5 crore in cash, sources told TOI.
Among the premises searched were the houses of Subedar Ojha, personal assistant to NCL CMD B Sairam, B K Singh, a senior NCL security officer, and Ravi Singh, a prominent NCL supplier based in Jayant.
There were reports that Singh was arrested but it wasn’t officially confirmed.
Following a complaint of illness, he was admitted to a hospital by Kotwali police. Singh, a major supplier of costly machinery and parts to NCL, wields considerable influence in Singrauli.
The operation involved 30 CBI officers. The agency is yet to issue an official statement regarding the ongoing investigation.
The DSP is the fifth CBI officer to be arrested by the agency in three months after four arrests related to an MP nursing scam probe in May. Three of them belong to CBI cadre while two were on deputation from MP police.
