China on Thursday said that it opposes any country that allows Dalai Lama to visit their country under any pretext. This came a day after the Tibetan Buddhist leader met with the US state department and White House officials, Reuters reported.
“China has made solemn protests with the US”, Mao Ning, foreign ministry spokesperson of China said.
“We don’t allow the Dalai Lama to engage in political separatist activities in the US,” Ning added.
The States on Wednesday “reaffirmed the US commitment to advancing the human rights of Tibetans.”
China has always considered Dalai Lama as a separatist political figure and a not a “pure religious figure”.
Earlier this year, China had warned of “resolute measures” if the US signed the “Tibet policy bill”. It had and also urged the latter to not support “Xizang independence.”
“It’s known by all that the 14th Dalai Lama is not a pure religious figure, but a political exile engaged in anti-China separatist activities under the cloak of religion,” it had said.
“We are gravely concerned over the relevant reports and urge the US side to fully recognize the anti-China separatist nature of the Dalai group, honor the commitments the US has made to China on issues related to Xizang, have no contact with the Dalai group in any form, and stop sending the wrong signal to the world,” he added.
