Minor gangraped on her way home from tuition in Assam’s Nagaon | Guwahati News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: A minor was allegedly gang-raped in Assam‘s Nagaon district on August 22 while returning home from a tuition class.

The incident occurred in the Dhing area, and local residents found the girl in a semi-conscious state by the roadside, subsequently admitting her to a hospital. Police have detained two people for questioning in connection with the crime.
The Superintendent of Police for Nagaon district, Swapnaneel Deka, stated, “Police have picked up two persons for interrogation in connection with the incident.”
“Our investigation is on.We are now waiting for the doctor’s report,” the police official added.

The incident has provoked widespread protests in the community, with residents calling for strict action against the perpetrators and justice for the victim. Various organizations enforced a local shutdown in the Dhing area following the events.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condemned the incident, calling it a “crime against humanity.”

“The horrific incident at Dhing, involving a minor, is a crime against humanity and has struck our collective conscience. We will NOT SPARE anyone & BRING the perpetrators to JUSTICE. I’ve directed @DGPAssamPolice to visit the site and ensure swift action against such monsters,” the Assam chief minister wrote on X.
