NEW DELHI: The Kolkata doctor rape-murder case has snowballed into a political showdown between the ruling TMC and the Bengal unit of the BJP, which has accused CM Mamata Banerjee of “endorsing” revenge politics.
Highlighting it before Union home minister Amit Shah, West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar, who also happens to be a Union minister, sought “prompt and decisive action to safeguard the interests of the citizens of West Bengal”.
Majumdar, in a letter addressed to Amit Shah, said Mamata Banerjee “shamelessly incited gathering” and made “anit-national” remarks.
The Bengal BJP chief was referring to Mamata Banerjee’s remark she gave earlier today while addressing a rally.
Speaking at the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) foundation day rally, Mamata Banerjee, according to news agency PTI, said: “The time has come to resist and protest when you are insulted. When faced with ugly attacks, do not take it lying down. How you respond is up to you.”
“I am writing to bring to your immediate attention towards the recent statements made by CM Mamata Banerjee during her address to the Student Wing of TMC today in Kolkata where she shamelessly incited gathering, declaring, ‘I never sought revenge, but now, do what needs to be done.’ This is nothing less than a blatant endorsement of revenge politics from the highest office in the state,” Sukanta wrote to Shah.

Sukanta further wrote: “This isn’t the voice of someone holding a constitutional position; it’s the voice of an anti-national. Her statement is a clear attempt to threaten, incite violence, and sow hatred among the people. She no longer deserves to hold such an important position. She must resign immediately”.
In the letter, the Bengal BJP chief urged Amit Shah “to take cognisance of this serious matter and initiate appropriate actions to address the situation and uphold the rule of law and maintain public order”.
