Akal Takht declares Sukhbir Singh Badal ‘tankhaiya’ — guilty of religious misconduct | India News – Times of India



NEW DELHI: The Akal Takht declared Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badaltankhaiya,” or guilty of religious misconduct, for the “mistakes” made by his party’s government from 2007 to 2017.
After a meeting of five Sikh head priests, Gyani Raghbir Singh, the Jathedar of the Akal Takht, the highest Sikh temporal authority announced that it was unanimously decided that, during his tenure as deputy chief minister and SAD president, Badal made decision that negatively impacted the party and harmed Sikh interests.
The Jathedar stated that until Sukhbir Singh Badal appears before the Akal Takht in the presence of the Guru Granth Sahib to seek an apology for his mistakes, he will remain declared a “tankhaiya.”
The Jathedar also announced that Sikh ministers who were part of the Akali cabinet from 2007 to 2017 must personally appear before the Akal Takht within 15 days to submit their written explanations. This decision came following a meeting at the Akal Takht secretariat.
