NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Friday delivered a stern message to Pakistan and stated that the period of continuous dialogue with the neighbouring nation is over.
Speaking at a book launch event in the national capital, the external affairs minister affirmed that emphasizing that actions have consequences.
Jaishankar reflected on the potential nature of India’s relationship with Pakistan.However, he made it clear that India would respond to any actions taken by Pakistan, whether they are positive or negative.
“The era of uninterrupted dialogue with Pakistan is over. Actions have consequences. So far as J&K is concerned, Article 370 is done. So, the issue is what kind of relationship we can contemplate with Pakistan…What I do want to say is that we are not passive, and whether events take a positive or a negative direction, either way, we will react,” Jaishankar said.
EAM also spoke about the complexities between neighboring nations, highlighting that diplomatic relationships, especially between geopolitically connected countries, can be difficult.
“Neighbours are always a conundrum… Tell me which country doesn’t have challenges with its neighbors?” he said.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has invited PM Narendra Modi along with other Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) leaders for the Council of Heads of Government (CHG) in-person meeting it will host in October this year.
