BATHINDA: Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat participated in the farmer protest upon completion of 200 days of struggle for MSP, at Shambhu situated on the Punjab-Haryana border on Saturday. While calling the farmers annadatas and likening them to her family, she urged the central govt to listen to their demands.
Vinesh said, “It pains me to see how the farmers, who feed the entire country, are being treated.Even we sportspersons are nothing without them as we too are fed by the grains grown by them. It pains me that we represent the country at bigger levels but fail to do anything in such matters (fulfilling the demands of farmers).”

She also said, “We appeal to the govt to listen to them as previously the govt had accepted that some mistakes have been committed and now it is time to fulfil the promises. If they are kept sitting on roads, the country is at a loss.
Despite this, they are very courageous. When the struggle goes on for long, some hopes start getting shattered, but they are in high spirits even after 200 days; it seems to be the first day of the protest. We get inspiration from them, and our family has learnt that if we have to get our rights, we will have to come on the roads. We got the courage to fight for rights and truthfulness. I am part of this family. If farmers are angry, then the govt must look into their grievances and show kind-heartedness,” added Phogat.
