RAIPUR: Nine Maoists were killed in a fierce encounter in forests bordering Dantewada and Bijapur districts in Bastar division of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. Security personnel have recovered weapons from the encounter site including SLR, .303 rifle, 315 rifle and the Naxal bodies.
According to Dantewada superintendent of police Gaurav Rai, a joint team of troops from Central Reserve Police Force and District Reserve Guards were out on anti-Naxal operation on Tuesday morning.
“There were specific inputs about presence of Maoists from West Bastar division, in forests bordering Dantewada-Bijapur district. An encounter broke out between Maoists and security personnel on Tuesday around 1030 hours and gunshots are still going on in brief intervals. Nine uniformed bodies of Naxalites were recovered from the spot along with weapons and explosives,” SP Rai said.
He added that the security personnel were all reported safe and the search is still on. Police said that more information about the encounter will surface soon.
Recently on Aug 29, three women Naxalites were killed in an encounter in Narayanpur district.
