The individuals, who remain at large, used fake identities, and the content creation company was unaware of the deception.
US officials also seized 32 internet domains that were utilized by the Kremlin to propagate Russian propaganda and undermine global support for Ukraine. Attorney General Merrick Garland stated that these actions were taken to combat Russia’s efforts to exploit state media and enlist unwitting American influencers to spread disinformation.
Russian tactics include leveraging state media like RT and fake websites to promote anti-US messages. These networks often focus on divisive issues such as immigration and crime. Many Americans may unknowingly encounter content that originated or was amplified by the Kremlin.
Officials from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence have revealed that Russia’s interference efforts involve both direct and outsourced digital propaganda. This includes hiring marketing firms within Russia to create and distribute fake content.
