NAGPUR: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court granted anticipatory bail to Nitin Bode, an insurance agent accused of promoting Naxalism and calling for an armed struggle against central govt through provocative WhatsApp messages. The court granted the relief citing absence of demonstrated intent to create unrest or immediate threat to public order.
Bode, 45, was booked under IPC section 153-A(1)(b), a provision that deals with promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, race, language or place of birth. The case was initiated following a complaint by Yavatmal anti-terrorist squad, which accused him of circulating an article supporting Naxalite ideology and calling for a revolution against govt.
According to the prosecution, Bode’s article, translated loosely as ‘Struggle against suppression of rights in India’, included a slogan, ‘Hail India, Hail Constitution, Hail Struggle’, which authorities argued was a veiled call for an armed revolution. tnn
