NEW DELHI: “Bomb on airplane.” This message discovered on a tissue paper in the lav of a Vistara Boeing 787 while it was winging its way from Mumbai to Frankfurt (UK 27) on Friday led the aircraft being diverted to Turkey’s Erzurum airport for “security reasons”. The aircraft (VT-TSQ) has safely landed in Turkey and will be thoroughly checked there.
“Vistara flight UK 27 operating from Mumbai to Frankfurt on Sept 6, 2024, has been diverted to Turkey due to a security concern that was noted by our crew while onboard. The aircraft has safely landed at the Erzurum Airport. As per protocol, the relevant authorities were immediately alerted and we are fully cooperating with the security agencies to complete the mandatory security checks. At Vistara, the safety and security of our customers, crew, and aircraft remain our highest priority,” said a Vistara spokesperson.
If post security check this if found to be a hoax, the aircraft will proceed to its destination. “Handwriting check should be done to find out who wrote this. Such diversions cause lot of inconvenience to passengers and cost airlines lot of money, apart from disrupting the schedule that aircraft is to operate,” said a senior pilot.
