MUMBAI: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by three men, including a friend, in Nalasopara, on the pretext of landing her a job. The men have been arrested.
The sexual abuse is believed to have occurred on Saturday. In her complaint to the Achole police in Nalasopara (east), the woman, a Vasai resident, stated that as she was on the lookout for a job, her 31-year-old friend asked her to visit him at his home. When she reached his home, he forced himself on her and raped her. After the sexual abuse, he pacified her and promised her the job and asked her to meet his friend, accused number two, at his home in Nalasopara. She reached the flat to find accused number three also present. The two men, aged 26 and 35, took turns to rape her. She later approached the police, who filed a case of gangrape and criminal intimidation.
Police said they are looking at closed-circuit television footage of the flats where the sexual abuses took place. The woman told the police that while she knew accused number one, she did not know the other two men. The accused men were picked up from their homes. Police said the mobile phones of the men had been seized to ascertain if they had recorded the sexual act. Police said they are investigating whether the men had planned to trap the woman and if they have abused other women by promising them jobs.
The woman, who is in a state of shock, has been sent for medical examination and her statement will be recorded once she is stable. The police are also trying to find out if the accused have any previous criminal records.
The accused have been booked under sections 64 (rape), 70 (1) (gangrape), and 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS Act. They have been remanded to police custody till further investigation.
