‘Loss for Pakistan’: Former Pakistan cricketer pushes for Mohammad Rizwan over Babar Azam as captain | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has endorsed Mohammad Rizwan as the ideal candidate to succeed Babar Azam as the captain of the Pakistan cricket team.
With reports circulating about Babar’s potential removal from the white-ball captaincy, Rizwan has emerged as a strong contender for the position, sparking diverse opinions among fans and former players.
Basit’s support for Rizwan stems from his observations during the Champions One-Day Cup, where Rizwan led the Markhors against the Stallions.
He highlighted Rizwan’s ability to assess the pitch conditions, a skill that he believes even Babar and Test captain Shan Masood lack.
“The way Rizwan led the side, he proved there is no better skipper than him. He has shown it with his captaincy. He read the pitch; it is a big thing. Even Babar can’t do that. I am not even talking about Shan,” Basit remarked on his YouTube channel.
Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, Basit stated, “If you don’t make him captain at this time, then it is a loss for Pakistan. This is the best time you should make Rizwan the captain.”
Pakistan recently suffered a humiliating defeat in the Test series against Bangladesh, losing both matches at home.
Looking ahead, Pakistan are set to host England for a series of three Test matches, commencing on October 7.
The first Test will take place in Multan, followed by the second Test in Karachi from October 15.
The third and final Test is scheduled to be held in Rawalpindi from October 24.
