Kaun Banega Crorepati 16: Chander Prakash becomes season’s first crorepati; fails to answer the Rs 7 crore question – Times of India


The latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 started with roll-over contestant Chander Prakash. Hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, the nation’s much-loved quiz show, ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, witnessed 22-year-old Chander Prakash, a UPSC aspirant from Jammu & Kashmir becoming the first crorepati of the season. However, he was unable to answer the jackpot question posed by Amitabh Bachchan during the quiz show.
Chander made his way to the hot seat despite facing significant health challenges since childhood but without letting this deter his spirit, Chander, who plays the game with grit and determination will be seen attempting the coveted 1 crore question on 25th September, Wednesday. The show started with host Amitabh Bachchan welcoming everyone and praising Chander’s determination and resilience. In the previous episode Chander had revealed that he has faced several challenges in life. When Chander was born, there was a blockage in his intestine and he has gone through seven surgeries so far. But there are still some intestinal issues and the doctors have advised him for Eighth surgery.
Host Amitabh Bachchan then asked him the first question of the day for Rs 3,20,000. A ‘yokozuna is the highest rank attainable in which contact sport? As Chander is aware of the answer, he confidently selects Option B) Sumo Wrestling. He wins the amount.
Chander next plays Super Sandook. He manages to answer 7 questions correctly and wins Rs 70,000. He decides to revive his “audience Poll’ lifeline. The contestant says that this is his first earning and he would use the amount to repay the loans that his parents have taken for his surgeries. He shares he will use the money to resolve his family’s financial crisis.
After answering the next few questions correctly, Chander wins Rs 12,50,000. Mr Bachchan then reads the next question for Rs 25,00,000. Which of these is a 21st century ‘superfood’ rich in omega-3 fatty acids, that was cultivated by the Aztecs more than 500 years ago? Chander selects Option D) Chia Seeds. As soon as Chander answers the question correctly, the audience gives him a standing ovation.
The host, Amitabh Bachchan praises how Chander has managed to answer all the questions swiftly without using any lifelines and that all his lifelines are intact. Chander next gears up to answer the Rs 50,00,000. According to the Padma Purana, with whom did Lord Krishna wage a battle over the fate of Chitrasena? The contestant shares with Big B that he is unaware of the answer and hence he would take the help of his first lifeline ‘Video Call A Friend’. As he doesn’t get a satisfactory answer, he uses another lifeline, “Audience Poll”. He selects Option B) Arjuna and it is the correct answer. The audience once again gives him a standing ovation.
Chander explains this moment as a dream come true. Host Amitabh Bachchan then presents the question for Rs 1 crore. The largest city in which country is not its capital but a port with an Arabic name that means ‘abode of peace’? After much thinking and applying logic to the answer, Chander uses the ‘Double Dip’ lifeline. He goes with Option c) Tanzania. It is the correct answer and Chander becomes the first crorepati of the 16th season.
Host Mr Bachcan praises Chander and teases him how his first income has been Rs 1 crore and they both share a hearty laugh. Big B and Chander reach the Rs 7 crore question. “Who was the first recorded child born to English parents in North America in 1587?” As Chander was unaware of the answer of the jackpot question and had already used up all three of his lifelines. Acknowledging that he didn’t know the answer, he chose to quit the show, informing Amitabh Bachchan that he had no idea what the correct response was. Before leaving the show, Big B asks Chandler to take a guess and he selects Option A) Virginia Dare and the correct answer is Option A) Virginia Dare.
Chander takes home Rs 1 crore amount.
