NEW DELHI: Kane Williamson achieved a personal milestone during the ongoing Test match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, surpassing Virat Kohli in the all-time Test run-scoring chart.
Despite a frustrating first innings, where he was dismissed for just 7 off 53 balls by spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, Williamson bounced back with a more aggressive approach in the second innings.
In New Zealand’s second innings, Williamson came to the crease with intent, playing attacking shots and showing a positive mindset.
He built a promising partnership of 97 runs with Devon Conway for the second wicket, as New Zealand tried to salvage the game.

Williamson compiled a solid 46 off 58 balls, with four boundaries, before he was dismissed by off-spinner Nishan Peiris.
Attempting to chip a ball towards long-on, Williamson was caught by substitute fielder Ramesh Mendis, who took a spectacular tumbling catch.
Though his innings was cut short, Williamson reached a personal milestone, surpassing Kohli’s Test run tally.
The Kiwi great now has 8,881 runs in 102 matches at an impressive average above 50. In comparison, Kohli, who has played 114 Tests, has scored 8,871 runs at an average of 48.74. However, Kohli would get a chance to overtake Williamson in the ongoing Bangladesh series.
Despite Williamson’s valiant efforts, New Zealand were still struggling in the match, having collapsed to 88 all out in the first innings and being forced to follow on.
Sri Lanka capitalized on Williamson’s dismissal and are well on its way to securing a series victory, with New Zealand reeling at 199-5 at stumps on day three.
