NEW DELHI: Security forces neutralized a terrorist during an ongoing encounter on Sunday in a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir‘s Kathua district.
The body of the terrorist was recovered from the scene of the encounter at Kog-Mandli in Billawar tehsil this afternoon, the officials said. Meanwhile, the search operation in the village continues for the second day.
Anand Jain, additional director general, Jammu zone, told that the search operation was launched in the village on Saturday following information about the presence of three to four foreign terrorists.
Jain also told that head constable Bashir Ahmad lost his life and two officers were injured after terrorists opened fire on the joint security search party of Army, CRPF and police.
He further said that the entire area is under a tight security cordon, and efforts are ongoing to neutralise the three to four foreign terrorists believed to be hiding in the area. He confirmed that the presence of terrorists was reported in a house.
“We are getting continuous information about terrorists and subsequently conducting operations with an endeavour to neutralise them as soon as possible,” he said.
Meanwhile, J&K police told that two unidentified terrorists were killed in a different operatin on Saturday morning in Kulgam district and five security personnel, including an officer were injured.
The gunbattle broke out in Adigam village in the Devsar area of the district after security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation.
In the early exchange of fire, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Mumtaz Ali suffered minor injuries due to a stray bullet near the encounter site, officials said. They said four security personnel also involved in the anti-terrorist operation sustained injuries in the encounter
