NEW DELHI: A local leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was shot in Punjab‘s Fazilka district on Saturday.
The ruling party and MLA Jagdeep Kamboj accused Shiromani Akali Dal leader Vardev Singh Noni Mann of firing the shot.
The incident happened after an argument between AAP leader Mandeep Singh Brar and some Akali workers outside the block development and panchayat office in Jalalabad, Fazilka.Brar, who is running for sarpanch from Muhammad Wala village, was injured in the chest.
After the shooting, Brar was taken to the Civil Hospital in Jalalabad and later moved to Ludhiana. MLA Kamboj stated, “Brar’s condition is stable.”
Jagdeep Kamboj claimed that Noni Mann, the son of former MP Zora Singh Mann, was responsible for the shooting. The police promised strict action in the case.
The elections for gram panchayats in Punjab are scheduled for October 15.
