AGRA: A district court in Kasganj has sentenced a 48-year-old man to life imprisonment for forcing his five-year-old daughter into a sack and setting her ablaze, resulting in severe burns which ultimately led to her death. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.
According to additional district government counsel (ADGC), Anil Kumar Singh, Mahipal Singh, a resident of Harsaina village in the Dholna area, used to see his daughter, Somvati, as a “burden” and decided to kill her on March 19, 2018 while his wife and elder son were away at work.
After the incident, Mahipal’s 25-year-old son, Vinod, filed a police complaint against him, prompting the then officer-in-charge, inspector Rajesh Kumar, to launch an investigation. Police arrested Singh on March 20, 2018, and subsequently filed a charge sheet in court on April 9, 2018.
“During the trial, seven witnesses testified in court. Based on the evidence presented, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life term under IPC section 302 (murder) on Tuesday. Singh’s plea for relaxation in punishment was also rejected by the court,” the ADGC said on Wednesday.
