NEW DELHI: Yearly, up to 1,000 Indians in the age group of 18-30 years will now be able to work and holiday for a year in Australia. Matt Thistlethwaite, MP and Australian assistant minister for immigration, launched the Australian Working Holiday Maker programme here on Monday.
India had officially joined this programme on Sept 16, 2024, becoming Australia’s 50th working holidaymaker partner country.This partnership was reached under the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement.
“Each program year, Australia may grant a first work and holiday (subclass 462) visa to up to 1,000 eligible Indian citizens aged 18 to 30. Working holidaymakers can visit Australia for one year, and work and study short-term while holidaying. If they meet certain requirements, they could also apply for a subsequent Work and Holiday visa,” stated the Australian High Commission website about this programme. TNN
