NEW Delhi: The Mumbai police official said that five additional individuals were apprehended on Friday in relation to the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, bringing the total number of arrests in this high-profile case to nine.
The Crime Branch conducted targeted raids in Panvel and Karjat, located in the neighbouring Raigad district, based on specific intelligence.These raids resulted in the arrest of the five individuals for their involvement in the conspiracy and execution of the crime.
The official also revealed that the arrested persons had connections to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which is suspected of carrying out the murder of Siddique.
“The total number of arrests in the case now stands at nine. Further probe is underway,” the official said, indicating that the investigation is still ongoing.
Siddique was shot and critically wounded on October 12 in the vicinity of his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique‘s office in Nirmal Nagar, situated in Mumbai’s Bandra area. Despite being rushed to the nearby Lilavati Hospital, the former Congress leader who had switched to the NCP succumbed to his injuries sometime later.
Among the four individuals previously arrested, two of them are alleged to be the shooters who were apprehended at the scene of the crime by the police and bystanders. The authorities are continuing their efforts to unravel the full extent of the conspiracy and bring all those involved to justice.
