Annu Kapoor alleges that facts were CHANGED in Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chak De! India’ for communal bias, Mir Ranjan Negi’s character was named Kabir Khan: They want to show Muslim as good – Times of India


Annu Kapoor who is known for his roles in movies like ‘Tezaab’, ‘Vicky Donor’, ‘Dream Girl’, Om Jai Jagdish’ and the recently released ‘Hamare Baarah’ is known to always be strongly opinionated. He’s also very vocal and honest about his opinions. In a recent interview, Kapoor has alleged how in so many movies facts are changed. He gave the example of Shah Rukh Khan‘s ‘Chak De! India’.
The actor said that the film was originally based on the life of coach Mir Ranjan Negi. But he was renamed as Kabir Khan in the movie (The character played by Shah Rukh Khan). Annu alleged that this was purposely done to portray a Muslim character positively while sidelining Hindu representation.
He said in a chat with ANI, “The main character in Chak De! India is based on a famous coach, Negi Saab. But in India, they want to show a Muslim as a good character and make fun of a Pandit (Hindu priest). This is something old, where they use the idea of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb (Hindu-Muslim unity) to put a label on it.”
‘Chak De! India’ is based on a coach who inspires the Women’s Hockey Team to win the world cup for India. The film was directed by Shimit Amin. The story highlights issues of gender and communal identity, showcasing the struggles of the players as they confront stereotypes and prejudice.
Meanwhile, apart from his comments on ‘Chak De! India’, Annu Kapoor also spoke about his career and movies. While talking about his film with Vishal Bhardwaj, ‘7 Khoon Maaf’, the actor said that Priyanka Chopra had a problem kissing him in the movie and it was perhaps due to the fact that he doesn’t have a face and personality. He alleged that she wouldn’t have a problem in kissing if it was a hero.
