KK, also known as Krishnakumar Kunnath, made his debut as a playback singer on October 25, 1996, with the song ‘Chhod Aaye Hum’ from the film ‘Maachis‘. This marked the beginning of a legendary career in Bollywood, where he became known for memorable tracks like ‘Aankhon Mein Teri’, ‘Dil Ibadat’, ‘Meri Maa’ and ‘Khuda Jaane’. To honor his contributions, Google has dedicated a special doodle to him today.
In the description, Google noted, “On this day in 1996, KK debuted as a playback singer with the song ‘Chhod Aaye Hum,’ featured in the movie ‘Maachis.'”
The note further stated, “Kunnath was born on August 23rd, 1968 in Delhi, India.He attended the Kirori Mal College of Delhi University and shortly worked in marketing before transitioning fully to music. In 1994, he submitted a demo tape to popular Indian artists and got his start performing commercial jingles. KK made his debut as a Hindi cinema playback singer in 1999 with the song Tadap Tadap from the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.”
In 1999, KK launched his first album, ‘Pal’, which marked a powerful beginning to his music career. The album included hit tracks like ‘Pal’ and ‘Yaaron’, which became popular anthems for school farewells and graduations. Over his remarkable three-decade career, he recorded an impressive 3,500 jingles in 11 languages and contributed over 500 songs in Hindi, as well as more than 200 songs in regional languages such as Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, and Malayalam.
