As Diwali is just around the corner, there has been recent a update and a piece of clear information regarding the date of the celebration. The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has confirmed the date for when the festival will be observed this year, settling all the doubts about whether it will take place on October 31 or November 1.
Official confirmation
A spokesperson for the Vishva Hindu Parishad, Sharad Sharma explained to India Today TV that the festival of Diwali this year coincides with Amavasya- – the new moon phase, which begins on that afternoon. The festivities will commence on the night of October 31, making an immensely important time for spiritual reflection as well as celebration.
Deepotsav and Hanuman Jayanti
On October 30, the day just before Diwali, Deepotsav will be celebrated. This festival, which involves lighting diyas and decorating homes, sets the way for the beautiful day of Diwali. This year, Deepotsav also coincides with Hanuman Jayanti, a highly significant occasion in Ayodhya that honours and reveres the birth of Lord Hanuman.
Significance of Diwali
Diwali, also famously referred to as the festival of lights, symbolizes the ultimate victory of positivity over negativity, meaning- – the win of good over evil. It celebrates the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya with Mata Sita and Lakshman after their 14-year vanvaas (exile), as well as the defeat of the rakshasa king Ravana.
Traditionally, people celebrate this auspicious day by lighting diyas, bursting fireworks, and decorating their homes with fresh flowers and beautiful rangoli designs. These customs not only signify joy and prosperity but also emphasize to bring light and awareness to the lives and truly believe in it.
And so, as it is cleared now that the festival of Diwali will be observed this year on October 31, the approaching festivities of Diwali are believed to foster a strong sense of community and togetherness, as families and friends come together to honor and celebrate their unique traditions and culture.
