MUMBAI: A threat call was made to the Delhi Airport control room, warning about a woman passenger who was allegedly a “human bomb” and carrying Rs 80 lakhs to meet her boyfriend. The Sahar police in Mumbai registered the case on Friday and discovered that the caller was the nephew of a 60-year-old woman from Andheri (West) whose name was mentioned as the suspected flyer.
A police team has been formed to track down the accused, who is believed to be the nephew of Gouri Bharwani, the woman named as the “human bomb” flying from Mumbai to Delhi.
The hoax call, made at 1.30 am on October 25, claimed, “There is a woman flying to Delhi from Mumbai and will continue her journey from Delhi to Uzbekistan from Mumbai to meet her boyfriend. She is carrying Rs80 lakhs and is a human bomb.”
The message was immediately relayed to the Mumbai authorities, prompting all agencies in the city to gather information on passengers departing from Mumbai. Despite their efforts, no passenger matching the description was found. “The airport authorities and the airliners went through the list of passengers that were supposed to fly between 1.30 am and 2 pm on Oct 25. Similarly, the Delhi Airport authorities and the police there too went through the passenger list but failed to find out the woman mentioned as the human bomb onboard,” said a police officer.
The Sahar police visited the address in Andheri mentioned by the caller but discovered that the woman had relocated long ago. Upon obtaining the woman’s details, they approached her only to find out that she is a 60-year-old who had never booked a flight ticket.
Further investigation revealed that the caller is suspected to be the woman’s nephew, who allegedly made the hoax call due to a family dispute with her.
This is the thirteenth FIR related to bomb threats registered with the Sahar police station between October 14 and 25. The police have managed to solve one out of the 13 FIRs after apprehending a 17-year-old student from Chhattisgarh in connection with an October 13 threat case that he posted on Twitter.
