Swiggy Instamart has introduced a new “Shopping List” feature. This new feature on Swiggy’s quick commerce platform was added after a suggestion from a Gurgaon entrepreneur on X (formerly Twitter) and aims to improve the grocery shopping experience. The feature currently in a pilot phase will allow customers to easily create and manage their grocery lists within the Swiggy app. The idea stemmed from a post by Hood app co-founder Abhishek Asthana (aka Gabbar Singh on X) highlighting the traditional practice of writing down shopping lists, a common habit among Indian consumers. Swiggy Instamart responded by developing this feature to provide a more convenient and digital alternative. The company claims that the “Shopping List” feature aims to simplify grocery shopping and make the process more efficient for users.

In his X post, Asthana suggested the shopping list idea for quick grocery delivery platforms including Zomato-owned Blinkit, Swiggy and Zepto. He wrote: “Indian shop via shopping lists. They go to a shop and give the list to the shopkeeper, he gets everything, It’s very difficult to search, pick the quantity & add to cart items one by one on your platforms. Pls give a functionality to upload a list. And it makes the cart for me. Thanks.”
The post has gone viral with 7.3 lakh views and Swiggy was the first quick commerce platform to reply to the post. Swiggy co-founder Phani Kishan A replied to the post saying: “Well we heard you @GabbbarSingh ☺️ The feature is in pilot phase and we will be scaling it up to all the users gradually. Here’s a small demo of your Shopping List @SwiggyInstamart 🧡”
How this feature works
Phani Kishan A also shared a demo video showing how the Swiggy Instamart feature works and the post has also received over 7.4 lakh views. The video shows that once this feature goes live, Swiggy Instamart users will only need to upload their shopping list on the app and it will read the list to add the mentioned items to the cart. This will save users from searching and adding each item on the list.
Another Blinkit developer named Poorvi Gupta also replied to the post and wrote: “Have put on our internal channel 🤞”
