SRINAGAR: At least 12 people were injured after a mob allegedly attacked National Conference’s Gurez MLA Nazir Ahmad Khan’s rally in Gujran area of Tulail in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district Wednesday. No arrests have been made so far, even as police registered a case and launched a probe.
The injured were hospitalised. Three of them were referred to a Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment. Some houses and several vehicles were also damaged in the clash. Police arrived at the spot and used smoke shells to disperse the mob and bring the situation under control.
The Gurez MLA accused relatives of BJP’s Faqeer Mohammad Khan — who lost the election against the MLA — and BJP workers of targeting the rally.
Refuting the allegations, DDC Tulail Ajaz Ahmad Khan — son of Faqeer Khan — claimed that rally participants pelted stones at BJP workers’ homes and provoked them. Villagers resisted, leading to clashes in which some BJP workers were also injured, he alleged.
