NEW DELHI: Four sanitation workers lost their lives after being struck by Kerala express near Palakkad, according to news agency PTI quoting railway authorities.
The police said that the Kerala express, bound for Thiruvananthapuram, struck four sanitation workers near Shoranur Railway Station while they were clearing garbage from the railway track near the Shoranur bridge, just a few kilometers from the station. The sanitation workers were knocked off the track due to the force of the collision at approximately 3:05 PM on Saturday.
While three bodies were recovered from the scene, efforts are ongoing to find the fourth worker, who is believed to have fallen into the Bharathapuzha River, according to the police.
A team from the railway police has arrived at the site. An officer from the Shoranur railway police noted that”the workers may not have seen the approaching train, leading to the accident, but further investigations are ongoing.”
