Varun Dhawan recently appeared on the game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 16′. The actor, who is preparing to unleash his web comedy ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny‘, attended the presentation on Wednesday with directors Raj and DK. Amitabh Bachchan asked Varun Dhawan and DK during the episode, “Which actress tragically passed away in a plane crash along with her husband, Maharaja Hanwant Singh of Jodhpur?” The choices were: “Sulochana, Mumtaz, Nadira, and Zubeida.” This question perplexed the pair for a time, eventually forcing them to utilise two of their three lifelines. “Zubeida,” the pair replied after calling Sita Menon, the author of ‘Honey Bunny’.
Post the answer, the host explained its back story. “The King met his fate when he was campaigning for the first-ever elections of independent India. Meanwhile, Zubeida was the actress who had worked in the first ever Indian Talkie film, Alam Ara. Later, her life inspired a film titled Zubeida.” To which, Varun added, “Karisma Kapoor, I think worked in it.” Big B also added, “It also starred Manoj Bajpayee.”
However, following the show, some social media users pointed out that Hanwant Singh’s wife Zubeida is not the same as actress Zubeida. This error also drew the notice of Zubeida’s son, Khalid Mohammed, who criticised the TV show’s producers.
“kaunbanegacrorepati…. Whoever calls the shots may I request for a clarification on KBC. Zubeida (Dhanragir) was a renowned actress who featured in Alam Ara. Not my maa Zubeida, did wish to act, but wasn’t permitted by her strict father. How could your research team make such a gaffe?” Khalid Mohammed wrote on his Twitter handle.

Pointing out the goof up made by the makers, a user on Twitter wrote, “So #KaunBanegaKarodPati goofed up today when it comes to the question on Maharaj Hanwant Singh and his wife Zubeida Beghum who both died in a plane crash in 1952. #KBC.” “This Zubeida (1), the second wife of Hamwant Singh ji was not the lead actress of the first talkie film #AalamAara (1931) while @SrBachchan in his commentary claimed Zubeida (1 – wife of Hanwant Singh ji) was the lead of AalamAara. Zubeida (2) the lead actress of AalamAara had married Maharaj of Hyderabad and lived up to late 80s,” the user added.
