PM aide bats for international synergy at disaster risk reduction meet – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A high-level Indian delegation led by PM’s principal secretary PK Mishra participated in a G-20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group ministerial meeting held in Belem, Brazil, Friday where he called for increased international collaboration on knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and sustainable development to enhance disaster resilience globally.
The Indian delegation also participated in a Troika meeting with ministers of Brazil and South Africa, and held bilateral meetings with ministers from the host country Brazil and others, including Japan, Norway, South Africa, South Korea, Germany, and heads of invited international organisations.
Mishra called for a proactive approach to disaster risk reduction (DRR) by member countries and highlighted five priorities of the working group, which were enunciated during India’s presidency of G20 – early warning systems, disaster resilient infrastructure, DRR financing, resilient recovery and nature based solutions.
In the disaster resilient infrastructure, he shared PM’s global initiative of Coalition for Disaster Resilience Infrastructure (CDRI), which has 40 countries and seven international organisations, as members. Responding to the call by UN secy general on extreme heat, Mishra shared experience & steps being taken, including the focus on promoting traditional practices to suit local conditions.
