An advertisement dedicated to Kamala Harris’s campaign recently came under fire with the Trump camp dismissing it as “stupid.”
In the advertisement, narrated by Julia Roberts, a woman can be seen voting for the Democratic candidate while her husband is under the idea that the former has voted for Trump. “What happens in the booth, stays in the booth” a voiceover plays in the background following which the woman assures her husband that she made the right choice.
The ad also shows the wife exchanging glances with a fellow female voter, before filling in her choice for Harris. “You can vote any way you want, and no one will ever know,” the narration says, before the husband asks “Did you make the right choice?” and the woman says, “Sure did, honey.”
The 30 second ad, financed by a religious nonprofit, shows the couple arriving at a polling station wearing baseball caps featuring the American flag, a symbol often sported by Trump supporters.
The ad has elicited fury within the Trump Camp calling it “stupid” and asking “Can you imagine a wife not telling her husband who she’s voting for?”
A host on Fox News recently said that his wife secretly voting for Harris would be “the same thing as having an affair.”
Meanwhile, former Republican House speaker Newt Gingrich also alleged that this was an example of the depth of her camp’s “corruption.”
A similar ad was aired by The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump political group featuring two upper-middle class men assuring each other their wives are voting for Trump. However, the women and other females at the voting, fill in their ballots for Harris.
The videos, and the furious reaction from Trump supporters, illustrate two key facets of the US presidential campaign.
These videos and their furious response reveals two sides of the US presidential campaign where on one side Trump and Harris are truly fighting for every last vote and on the other hand Harris is counting heavily on mobilizing women in the ultra-tight race that will see a never like before gender gap in votes.
A latest poll by NBC found out that there is a 34-percentage point difference between male and female intended voters where Harris has a 16-point lead among women while Trump has an 18-point lead among men.
The unprecedented divide emerges as the result of Harris’s campaign which has strongly focused on reproductive and abortion rights, following the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn the federal right to the procedure.
The US presidential elections are scheduled for November 5, where the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump will be facing a tight race.
