Latur city election results: Congress leader Amit Deshmukh defeats BJP’s Arhchana Chakurkar by over 7,000 votes | India News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: Congress leader Amit Deshmukh defeated BJP’s Dr Arhchana Patil Chakurkar by a margin of 7,398 votes.
Deshmukh secured 1,14,110 votes while the BJP candidate Chakurkar has secured 1,06,712 votes.
Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi’s Vinod Somprakash Khatke is currently at the third place with 17,752 votes.
Latur City is one of Maharashtra’s 288 Assembly constituencies, located in Latur district, which ranks as the 16th largest city in the state and serves as the district headquarters.
As per the 2011 Census, Latur has a population of 382,940, with Scheduled Castes making up 17.62% and Scheduled Tribes 1.45% of the population.
In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Congress candidate Amit Deshmukh won the Latur City seat by a large margin, securing 111,156 votes. Shailesh Govindkumar Lahoti of the Bharatiya Janata Party was the runner-up with 70,741 votes.
